The Carranam Sweater is a simple worsted weight sweater worked in stockinette, with a lovely fit and some gorgeous finishing details. The yoke is constructed using a contiguous saddle shoulder method to shape the shoulders first, then sleeve increases, and then raglan increases. The yoke section is worked to an upper bust measurement, and the body has some additional increases to the full bust measurement (size dependent). The collar, cuffs and hem are worked in 2x2 ribbing with an additional rolled edge. The sweater is designed to fall to a high hip level. The pattern is intended to be a boxy fit, but has options for waist shaping if desired, as well as adjusting length as needed for the body and sleeves. This is a size inclusive design, written for 10 sizes (30-66 inch / 75-165 cm finished upper bust, in 4 inch / 10 cm increments) and designed for 2-6 inches / 5-15 cm of positive ease.

Note: The sizes reflect the FINISHED upper bust measurements in inches / cm of the sweater, and listed below you can see the recommended actual bust range for each size. The sweater is designed for 2-6 inches / 5-15 cm of positive ease at the upper bust. To determine the size you wish to knit, measure your upper bust and add 2-6 inches / 5-15 cm to find the closest size. My sample is knit with about 6 inches / 15 cm of positive ease (Size 4 on a 36 inch / 90 cm bust and 30 inch / 75 cm waist).
The full bust and waist measurements of this sweater are quite customizable, so the upper bust is the best number to choose size based off of. Once you split for the sleeves/body, you can work increases to fit your full bust, as well as bust darts and waist increases or decreases as needed.
Needles recommended:
5 mm / US 8 / UK 6 (or size needed to obtain gauge) - main body
4 mm / US 6 / UK 8 (or two sizes down from the main needle) - ribbing
Cord length to match your bust measurement as well as 9-16 inch / 22.5-40 cm cord for the sleeves (or DPNs or 32-40 inch / 80-100 cm cord for the magic loop method).

My sample is knit using Witchfire Fibers Classic Worsted (218 yds / 200 m per 100g) in the colourway It Was All Borrowed Time.
Knitpicks Swish Worsted is a great budget friendly alternative yarn.

Note: If you choose to knit your sweater using multiple strands held together, you will need the above yardage for EACH strand.
Note: Yardage is an approximation and is calculated using the recommended length (see schematics on pages 4-5) and no waist shaping, plus a 5% buffer. Allow for extra yardage if choosing to do any body or sleeve length modifications, or significant bust shaping. The yardage can vary depending on your gauge and knitting, so I always recommend buying extra in case you require more yardage. Most testers used 5-10% less than the estimates listed above, except for those that added significant length.
