The Pillars Pullover is the newest pattern in my Pillars design line! It is designed to be a simple, oversized sweater that has the classic V neck and long ribbing as all my other Pillars designs. I wanted to give this design a little twist, so I opted for a big split hem and ribbed collar for this one! It is a V neck style, and is worked top down flat while working the shoulder to armhole sections, then in the round for the body stockinette, and then flat again for the split hem. The sleeves are designed to be fairly loose with a longer ribbed cuff, but I will also provide a more fitted modification option. The sweater is designed to fall below the hips, but you are welcome to modify length as desired. It is intended to be worn with 20-30% positive ease. It is a size inclusive design with sizes every 3” from 32”-80” finished bust circumference.

Sizes offered:
32, 35, 38 (41, 44, 47) {50, 53, 56} (59, 62, 65) {68, 71, 74} 77, 80
The sizes reflect the FINISHED bust measurements in inches of the sweater, with the recommended bust range below (lower end of range is with 30% positive ease, higher end is with 20%).

To fit actual bust of:
25-27.5, 27.5-30, 30-32.5(32.5-35, 34.5-37.5, 37-40) {39-42.5, 41.5-45, 44-47.5} (46-50, 48.5-52.5, 51-55) {53-57.5, 55-60, 57.5-62.5} 59-64, 61.5-66.5

The sweater is designed for 20-30% of positive ease. To determine which size you should knit, measure your actual bust, and multiply by 1.2 - 1.30 (20% - 30% positive ease). Find the closest value in the above size list. If you are in between sizes, size down if you prefer a snugger fit, or up if you prefer a looser fit. My sample is size 44” on a 36” bust, so about 22% positive ease.

Note: If you are fairly busty, you may want to use a lower positive ease, or knit a size based on your upper bust measurement rather than your full bust measurement, this will help prevent the sweater being too loose around the rest of your torso.

Needles recommended:
Note: I recommend using a set of interchangeable needles for this pattern, as you will need multiple cord lengths
5 mm / US 8 / UK 6
Cord length to match your bust measurement as well as 9-16” needles for the sleeves or 32-40” cord or the magic loop method.

You may need other size needles to meet gauge.

Gauge (blocked):
Using 5 mm needles and working in stockinette in the round AND flat.
I recommend swatching both in the round and flat, as parts of the sweater are knit flat before joining in the round, and the split hem is knit flat. If your flat gauge is significantly different than your round gauge, you can adjust needle size for the flat portion.

4” x 4” = 17 sts x 24 rows/rounds
Make sure to block your swatch, as this can significantly change the size of your swatch depending on your fiber choice. Keep in mind that the weight of the finished sweater may add a little extra stretch.

Note: If your stitch count is correct for gauge but row/round count is a bit off, continue using this needle size, but keep in mind you may need to adjust your length by adding rounds.

Yarn recommended:
Any worsted (4) weight yarn that you can get gauge with. You could also hold DK and suri/mohair together in place of a worsted yarn.

Sample yarn - I used Explorer Knits Carlsbad Worsted (218 yds per 100g) in the colourway Midwinter

Affordable alternative - KnitPicks Swish Worsted (110 yds per 50g), $6.99 USD per ball

Yardage required:
Size - Yardage (Additional yardage per extra inch of length)
32 - 810 (23)
35 - 865 (25)
38 - 945 (27)
41 - 1025 (29)
44 - 1080 (31)
47 - 1195 (33)
50 - 1300 (35)
53 - 1395 (38)
56 - 1465 (40)
59 - 1440 (42)
62 - 1660 (44)
65 - 1740 (46)
68 - 1845 (48)
71 - 1940 (50)
74 - 2050 (52)
77 - 2110 (54)
80 - 2175 (56)

Note: Yardage is an approximation and is calculated using the recommended measurements (see schematics). Allow for extra yardage if choosing to add length. Yardage can vary depending on your gauge and knitting, so I always recommend buying extra in case you require more yardage.
