The Scripey Socks pattern is the same fabulous scrappy/stripey style as the Scripey Sweater!! It is a simple sock pattern with some colourful stripes and purl colour change rounds. The socks are knit top down, with a heel flap and gusset, and a wedge toe. These are knit using the soft, squishy Knitpicks Brava Worsted yarn, or any other DK or worsted weight yarn you can achieve gauge with!
-measurement is the circumference around the ball of the foot
X-Small: ~7 inch circumference (unstretched), can stretch to fit up to about 8.25 inches
Small: ~7.7 inch circumference (unstretched), can stretch to fit up to about 9/9.5 inches
Medium: ~8.5 inch circumference (unstretched), can stretch to fit up to about 9.5/10 inches
Large: ~9.1 inch circumference (unstretched), can stretch to fit up to about 11 inches
*These measurements are based off of my sample piece, yours may vary slightly depending on gauge and tension. Please choose a size where the measurement of the circumference of the ball of your foot falls within the unstretched-stretched range. A rule of thumb that I have seen is that a sock should be made with about 10% negative ease (eg. my foot circumference is 8.5 inches, I would want a sock that has about 7.65 inch circumference), but you don't need to follow that exactly. The length of the socks is customizable based on your foot length so only base your size on the foot circumference.*
US3/3.25 mm 32+ inch circulars for magic loops method (you can also use 9 inch circulars or DPNs if you prefer, though pattern is written for magic loop method)
*may need other size needles to meet gauge
23 sts x 34 rows equals a 4x4 inch square/10x10 cm in stockinette after blocking
5.7 sts x 8.5 rows equals a 1x1 inch square/2.5x2.5 cm
Any DK or worsted weight yarn that you can get gauge with.
I used Knitpicks Brava Worsted yarn (218 yds per 100 g ball) in Silver (cuffs, heel, toe, Contrast Colour/CC) and Brava Minis (54 yds per 25 g ball) in Celestial, Cornflower, Tranquil, Grass and Dublin (body of the sock, Body Colours/BC).
For the body of the sock, I used 5 different colours, though you really could use as many as you like! I think 3-4 would be the minimum number because you want enough that you can alternate between them and have some cool colour combos. These will be termed the Body Colours for yardage estimates. Don't worry about individual yardage for each colour, you just need to make sure you have enough for the total body yardage.
X-Small: ~20 grams/44 yards of CC, ~50 grams/108yards of BC
Small: ~26 grams/57 yards of CC, ~60 grams/130 yards of BC
Medium: ~30 grams/66 yards of CC, ~70 grams/151 yards of BC
Large: ~35 grams/77 yards of CC, ~80 grams/172 yards of BC
*Yardage is a generous approximation. I have included a fair bit of extra foot length for each size so this should accommodate all foot lengths. If you have extremely long feet, I would go with a little extra yardage just to be safe!*
