The White Noise Sweater is designed to be a simple, cozy V-neck sweater that has a unique marled effect due to the use of a bulky and a lace yarn held together. It has a V-neck front and is worked top down. The sleeves are a straight sleeve that results in a slight flared look at the bottom.  The bottom hem is a 1x1 ribbed hem, and features a short side split hem. The sweater is designed to fall to a long crop level. The pattern will have options for waist shaping if desired, and customizing length. It is a size inclusive design. The fit is meant to be a little bit loose and boxy, though you can make a more fitted garment by choosing a size down.

Sizes offered: 30 (34, 38, 42) {46, 50, 54} (58, 62, 66, 70) inches
Sizes 58”, 66” and 70” are untested, if you are interested in knitting the White Noise Sweater in one of those sizes, please let me know and I will gift the pattern to you in exchange for feedback!
These measurements are for the FINISHED bust size in inches, and the sweater is designed for 2-6 inches of positive ease. To determine the best size for you, measure your actual bust in inches, and add 2 to 6 inches depending on how fitted you want the sweater to be.*

Needles required:
8 mm/US 11 for body (32-40 inch cord or longer for body, plus 16 inch cord or optional DPNs for sleeves)
6.5 mm/US 10.5 for ribbing (at least 16-24 inch cord for bottom hem ribbing, for sleeves you may be able to use 16 inch cord, or longer cord with magic loop method,or DPNs)

Gauge:
4” x 4” = 12 sts x 14 rows using 8 mm needles and working in stockinette
1” x 1” = 3 sts x 3.5 rows
make sure to complete a gauge swatch and adjust needle size if needed!

Yarn required: any bulky weight yarn (I used Knitpicks Biggo) and lace yarn (I used Knitpicks Luminance) to match gauge

*You could also use a slub yarn in place of a lace yarn for a more textured marling look!*

Yardage required:

Bulky: 375 (450, 525, 600) {660, 750, 810} (900, 930, 1010, 1060)

Lace: 375 (450, 525, 600) {660, 750, 810} (900, 930, 1010, 1060)

Note: yardage is an approximation and is calculated using the recommended length. Allow for extra yardage if choosing to do any length modification. The yardage can vary depending on your gauge and knitting, so I always recommend buying extra in case you require more yardage. Most of my testers were under the recommended amount when following the recommended lengths for body and sleeves.

Extra notions required:

  • Lots of stitch markers! 8 markers (ideally of one colour) for raglan seams, 3 markers (second colour) for the raised line markers, 1 marker (third colour) for the front raised line/BOR marker
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Scrap yarn or extra cord for holding sections of the work
  • Row counter is recommended!
