The Bisected Sweater is a slightly cropped, oversized pullover worked half knit and half purl with a raised line detail at the switch between the knit/purl halves. It has a crew style neckline with the neck shaping a picked up collar, and is worked top down (flat for the armhole shaping, then in the round for the remainder of the body and sleeves) with a sloped drop shoulder construction. The collar, cuffs and bottom edge have a 1x1 ribbed hem in a contrasting colour (optional). The sweater is designed to fall to a slightly cropped level. The pattern is intended to be a boxy fit, but there are options for waist shaping if desired, as well as adjusting length as needed for the body and sleeves. This is a size inclusive design, written for 11 sizes (31.5-71.5 inch / 79-179 cm finished bust, in 4 inch / 10 cm increments) and designed for 4-8 inches / 10-20 cm of positive ease.

Note: The sizes reflect the FINISHED bust measurements in inches of the sweater, and listed below the sizes you can see the actual bust range for each size. The sweater is designed for 4-8 inches / 10-20 cm of positive ease. To determine the size you wish to knit, measure your bust, and add 4-8 inches / 10-20 cm to find the closest size. If you are in between sizes, size down for a snugger fit, or up for a looser fit. My sample is knit with about 7 inches / 17.5 cm of positive ease (size 4 on a 37 inch / 92.5 cm bust).

Note: If you are fairly busty, you may want to use a lower positive ease, or knit a size based on your upper bust measurement rather than your full bust measurement. This will help prevent the sweater being too loose around the rest of your torso.

Needles recommended:
5 mm / US 8 / UK 6 (or size needed to obtain gauge) - main body
4.5 mm / US 7 / UK 7 (or size needed to obtain gauge) - ribbing
- Cord length to match your bust measurement as well as 9-16 inch / 22.5-40 cm cord for the sleeves (or DPNs or 32-40 inch / 80-100 cm cord for the magic loop method).

Gauge (blocked):
Using 5 mm / US 8 / UK 6 (body) needles and working both in stockinette and reverse stockinette:
I recommend swatching both in the round and flat, as parts of the sweater are knit flat before joining in the round. If your flat gauge is significantly different than your round gauge, you can adjust needle size for the flat portion.
4 x 4 inch / 10 x 10 cm = 18 sts x 26 rows/rounds

Using 4.5 mm / US 7 / UK 7 (ribbing) needles and working in 1x1 ribbing in the round:
4 x 4 inch / 10 x 10 cm = 20 sts x 30 rows/rounds

Note: If your stitch count is correct for gauge but row/round count is a bit off in either direction, continue using this needle size, but keep in mind you may need to adjust your length by adding/removing rounds.

Extra notions recommended:
Stitch markers for BOR, side marker and the front/back center markers
Scissors
Yarn needle
Measuring tape
Knit keeper cords, scrap yarn or extra cord for holding sections of the work
Row counter

Yarn recommended:
Any worsted weight yarn (or DK held with suri/truffula) to match gauge.

My sample is knit using Treehouse Knits Dove DK (246 yds/100 g) held with Suri Ash Lace (459 yds/50 g) in the colourways Stick Season (main colour) and No More Than the Fossils (contrast edging). The suri was held throughout the whole sweater and the DK was switched for the collar/cuffs/hem.

Yardage is an approximation at this point, and is calculated using the recommended lengths (see schematic) and no waist shaping. Many testers used less than the estimated yardages, however I suggest allowing for extra yardage if choosing to do any length modifications, especially if you know you have a long torso or prefer a longer sweater.
